Diversity and Cultural Citizenship
YouTube is more than a business; it is a forum that allows ordinary people to participate in culture. It raises concerns about the individual's connection to a global, culturally diverse sense of community. Despite the fact that YouTube has become increasingly commercialized, deep personal and social habits have remained a significant part of participants' lives. Furthermore, the network has the potential to be a catalyst and amplifier for global cultural citizens. It's a place where people can express their identities and experiences, interact with other people's self-representatives, and experience cultural differences. The benefits of participatory technology and media forms have increased the number and diversity of producers, and undoubtedly shifted a large number of people toward cultural development. YouTube is proud of its diversity and progressive social change programs, such as the Creators for Change program, which brings together a diverse group of foreign YouTubers to support progressive causes and network with one another. The logics of popularity and how they are expressed as metrics, as in Facebook's newsfeed, continue to favor noise and debate above everything else. Globalization and Localization Public reactions to the implementation of localization in 2008 were sporadic and overwhelmingly negative, and protest videos relating to the transition were difficult to come by. The most common gripe was that certain countries had not yet been included in the program, so their experience was based on that of another nation. Those who did protest not only despised having to choose between the UK and US flags, but also felt compelled to demand a YouTube edition tailored to their own countries. This debate caused controversy. Individual use, social intimacy, and daily imagination are all linked together on YouTube, as is global intercultural communication. The sharing of images is an example. Global YouTube is the most popular content. Many different versions of YouTube were being distributed to various countries. Since then, the organization has gradually implemented a variety of content filtering and take-down policies, which have effectively transformed and reshaped the global cultural public domain using automated technologies. YouTube as Cultural Archive The majority of YouTube users listen to music on the website, with the majority preferring to listen to songs they are already familiar with over new songs. This points to a significant and widely used alternative use of YouTube, but one that is rarely mentioned in discussions of its implications: YouTube as a cultural archive. Major music labels have contributed videos from their back catalogues, as well as cable and free-to-air outlets, to the archival depth. The vast majority of YouTube's vast and diverse collection of cultural ephemera, such as commercials, infomercials, and public instructional materials, documentary videos, and clips from children's shows, are not available for download. This concept of YouTube as an archive has cultural significance, as it complements the state's more purposeful and highly specialized activities. based on institutions for cultural archiving These functions have evolved, with more people participating in end-user interaction and crowdsourcing events. There is no requirement to store these data beyond the economic feasibility of the business that provides the storage service since YouTube provides its service based on commercial interests rather than public ones. While archiving mainstream and media culture is important in and of itself, the significance of this task has been highlighted by the role that YouTube eyewitness videos have played. Double Page Spread Photos: -Page 3: https://www.dreamstime.com/flydragonfly_info. -Page 4: https://www.istockphoto.com/portfolio/franz12?assettype=image&mediatype=photography. Table of contents photo: -Top: https://pixabay.com/photos/machu-picchu-peru-world-heritage-2742849/. -Bottom: Cannot be found (Google Images) This is my final draft of the table of contents. I changed the background to a tan color to fit the photos. The white background was simplistic. I also changed the top left picture to a photo of Machu Picchu. The previous photo was of the Great Wall and I already put that as the cover photo. Machu Picchu is relevant to the magazine as on of my articles is about the most visited places on Earth, and it happens to be one of them.
I also made the font sizes larger and changed the page numbers so that some topics were around the same number of pages. The top right photo was found from https://pixabay.com/photos/machu-picchu-peru-world-heritage-2742849/. This is the 3rd time I've changed my magazine cover. I feel this time, my magazine cover looks realistic. I've made the cover more simplistic by removing several of the article titles from the cover. In the magazine draft 2, it looked overwhelming and unrealistic.
I made the words on the green mountain white and yellow to contrast the green and make it easier to read. I made the words that are in the sky dark blue to contrast the light blue. The title is black to stand out more too. I also but the filter "California" on the cover image to help the words pop out. Adding a brief description under "The Great Wall of China" and "The Burj Khalifa" will help attract readers. Who wouldn't be interested in the world's tallest building. It will be especially interesting to those who want to travel somewhere new. I changed the background color to a light blue to match the aesthetic of the photos. The white background was also boring and plain. I also got rid of the indents of the paragraphs to left justify the words like they are in other magazines. I increased the size of the font of the title to take up more room and get rid of the blank space. News coverage can sneak into our subconsciousness and change the way we think and behave. It changes our insight of risks, affects our dreams, and can affect our health. Negative news also puts stress on people and causes their heart rates to go up. This will impact their physical health as well. This happens because we are constantly listening to news from the radio and TV or seeing it on social media throughout the day. We humans tend to pay attention to the news when something bad occurs, psychologically affecting us.
I agree that the news shapes the way we act and think and that it affects our health. The article gave an example of this when it explained the news coverage of the Boston Marathon. "Another group had been even more badly shaken: those who had not seen the explosion in person, but had consumed six or more hours of news coverage per day in the week afterwards," it said. This shows the impact of watching a lot of news can have on a person. News stories also shape how we perceive things. The article mentions that the more news someone sees, the more their opinions will change. Lastly, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, watching negative news increases the rate of heart attacks as it causes stress. Our relationship with our phones and social media is called a co-constitutive relationship. This means that we construct the technology but the technology also constructs us. Discourses, systems of thoughts, are embedded in technology and are deeply-rooted in the kinds of activities we can do with our technologies. People are creating identities along consumer and producer lines. We construct a social relatility and well as a social self on social media.
Social media has influenced me by changing my behavior. It has made me more addictive to my phone, I spend over 7 hours a day on my phone scrolling through social media platforms. It has also influenced my shopping behavior. With social media, I'm exposed to many pictures and videos and when I see and outfit used in these that I like, it makes me want it. Social media has also influenced my social life. I can send messages through different platforms to communicate with my friends in family. I now see them less in person and more online. I believe that social media shapes identity. I know from personal experience that social media impact our behavior and the way we think. I feel as if I would be a different person if social media did not exist. It changes our social lives by allowing us to communicate with one another online, taking away the opportunity to communicate face to face. As the video mentioned, we construct a social reality and social self on the internet. Social media also changes our behaviour in creating an addiction to our phones. Young people spend several hours on their devices due to this phenomenon. Some “big guys” in the gaming industry would be the gamers Pewdiepie and Dream. Pewdiepie is the biggest gamer creator on YouTube with over 100 million subscribers, making him the most subscribed Youtuber. Dream is one the fastest growing YouTube channels and gains over 50 million views on some videos and has almost 20 million subscribers. They play a large role in the gaming community because of their impressive numbers and influence on hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
There are many “little guys” in the gaming industry. Millions of gamers worldwide stream and post their content online in hope of going viral and getting big. These people are considered “little guys” because they are not influencing many people because they’re numbers are still small. Most gamers strive to blow up and gain a bigger audience. To do this by streaming themselves playing games and posting clips of their best performances on social media hoping that people find them entertaining. Many gaming clips are posted on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Many also livestream on Twitch and YouTube. On these platforms they are able to post hashtags so they can reach people interested in their content. Posting on social media is the most important thing to do for new creators to reach their audience. Being the big guy in the gaming community has its advantages and disadvantages. Because they have millions of people watching them, big creators have an influence on all these people. They must be careful with what they post online, because things may upset people. Though an advantage would be that they’re making a lot of money by doing something that they enjoy. Little guys in the community do not make money. Because they do not have enough viewers or followers, making money is near impossible. However, having a small audience allows for improvement, learning new skills, and having no pressure from a large group of people. When candidates use, access, and produce music, this illustrates wider trends and patterns in audience behavior. Listening to songs and telling other people or posting about it, will encourage more listeners. This is what causes songs to become trending and successful. The spread of a song, will cause more people to listen to whatever type of music it may be. The more and more people that are exposed to new songs, the more fans. This causes audiences to listen to other songs similar to a trending song. For example, songs trending on Tik Tok are extremely listened to after they blow up.
