There are many issues raised by media ownership and funding in contemporary media practice. These issues are present in all types of media, film, music, print, and video games. Issues include piracy, the internet, and the dominance of Hollywood film industries.
All media is owned by a company. The company holds the rights to publish and distribute their work. Piracy is one of the issued from media ownership. Piracy is the illegal distribution of media without the permission of its owner or company. This can include downloading or copying. With new advances in technology, piracy has better quality and has been easier and cheaper to accomplish. When pirated films are distributed, it can cause movies to become unsuccessful because no profit will be made. Adding on to piracy, the internet can also cause issues. Piracy can also mean leaks. If someone gets ahold. electronic files before the release of a film, a song, an article, or a video game and leaks it on the internet, it will cause major chaos. A leak will spread around the world very quickly. This can cause a company to lose profit because so many people have their hands on their product. An example of this could be when a film has not been yet to release in a country. Because of translation and other factors, films in say the US will not be released in another country until later. Piracy is popular when this occurs because people will be willing to pay for a film through the internet to see it as soon as possible. Another issue is the dominance that Hollywood production companies have internationally. Companies like Warner Brothers and Universal are a few examples. These companies are multibillion dollar industries. Because of their budget, they are able to distribute and market multiple films across the world. This is an issue for British Film Industries because they are being over shadowed. Cinemas are dominated by American films. In conclusion, in contemporary media practice, many issues are raised by media ownership. Piracy and Hollywood are key issues. Piracy is easier to accomplish with technological advances and the internet, which will hurt companies; and Hollywood industries are overpowering film industries around the world.

My notes on the camera work were similar and different than the candidate’s notes. We both included the crane movement in the beginning and listed some camera shots that we saw. Both of us talked about the zoom in on the washing machine. Though, I also mentioned the poster zoom in while they mentioned the zoom in on when a character talked. Their notes went into a bit more detail and talked about specific scenes, while my notes were brief. We also generalized when some shots were used. For example, they said that zoom ins happened the further a conversation went, and I said that mid shots were used when there was 2 characters standing together.
Our notes on sound were both similar and different. We talked about the sound the washing machine made. We also said that the wife’s voice was louder than the background noise to show dominance. I mentioned the man on the phone and how his voice was creepy and by the way he talked he sounded proud of the husband. The candidate talked about the chattering of the people in the office. We also talked about the use of eerie music that was used to create suspense. Both of us mentioned the fading transitions and how the pace was slow. They said it was to establish the setting. I talked about how the murder was not shown but it was obvious that the husband killed the wife due to the sound and the shot of her bludgeoned and dead. This was to create tension, we could not see what was happening, but we know. Both of us mentioned how long the takes were. Our notes mostly resembled each other for mise-en-scene. Our notes were about the boring tones and the dark props. We said that the lighting was low. They also mentioned the highlights on the character and props. I didn’t even notice that. I talked about the setting. I wrote that looking at the clothes and telephone, the film probably took place around the 60s. Intertextuality is the way that similar or related texts influence, reflect, or differ from each other.
- Obligatory intertextuality is when a reference is made that is important to the text. Therefore, if the audience does not comprehend the credit they will not fully understand in hand. - Optional intertextuality is when the author is paying homage to another text and so the recognition of the allusion is not vital to the interpretation of the text. - Accidental intertextuality relies on the audience to make connections between two texts that were not intended by the author.
